Are your showers making it impossible for you to heal?
Most people don't drink tap water, because of the contaminants it contains, but often even the most holistically minded don't think about the water they're bathing in. And it's an important consideration, when you think about it. Because, compared to the 58 gallons of water Americans drink every year, on average, they bathe in 5,712 gallons. That's almost a difference of 100 times.
In 1998, when I was young(er), a holistic doctor advised my mother to stop bathing in tap water. She was trying to lower the heavy metal levels in her system.
'Showering in chlorinated tap water is the equivalent of drinking 8 glasses of it per day,' he said, matter-of-factly.
Unfiltered tap water does not only contain chlorine and its byproducts (like trihalomethanes), but also fluoride, various heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, and pharmaceutical components, including the hormones from birth control.
Do you know the work of Masaru Emoto? What kind of water do you want to be bathing in? Because, whatever water you are bathing in becomes part of your fluid intelligence, and will begin to affect your fluid systems.
Flouride in and of itself is disturbing, and it calcifies the pineal gland, which is the master-gland of the whole organism. Aside from regulating the function of every other gland, the pineal also gives us the ability to discern between nourishing food and poison. It renders one more docile, and less discerning generally.
I encourage you to cut out flouride from your diet and from your water as soon as possible, if you haven't already. As a hint, it's a main ingredient in most teeth whiteners and toothpastes. White teeth are attainable in other ways, and aren't worth surrendering your vitality.
What's in your Water?
Here's a diagram with information that the EPA put out, that gives some insights into the hidden components in our water.
Cancer risk among people using chlorinated water is as much as 95% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.
66% of the harmful effects of chlorine are due to inhalation and skin absorption while showering.
The reason that chlorine is linked to many diseases is because those diseases are linked to pathogens in the body (for example, candida and cancer), and chlorine gradually erodes the delicate balance of beneficial flora in the body, and the microbiome of the skin. Along with the immune system, these systems keep parasites and pathogens in check. So we want to nurture and protect them as much as possible. The antibiotics that find their way into our food and water supplies don't help either.
Healing is about getting out of the way, and allowing the body intelligence to function adequately, without continually inundating it with toxins that prevent healing. This is an invitation to do just that.
If you have a household water filter, that will take care of many of these elements. The water flows through a central unit before being disseminated to the faucets in the house. The challenge with those is the cost and sometimes the complexity of the install. For many renters, they're not a viable option.
If you need a quicker, more portable solution, here it is...
You can simply install filters like this over individual shower heads. As a perennial renter, I've always installed these in the showers wherever I've moved. I can tell when I stop using one because my skin becomes dry and flaky, and the texture of my hair changes. Now, different areas have different additives in the water, based on local policies, and some water is harder than other.
For the purist, you can even bring these with you to hotel rooms, and install them for the duration of your stay there. It's that simple; they simply thread on and off. f
If you're bathing in unfiltered tap water, you're allowing your body to be inundated with chemicals, which were chosen based on politics and finance; they have little to do with your heath. In fact, some reason that the opposite is true. I was reading somewhere that a manufacturing industry was having trouble disposing of flouride legally, so they lobbied to have it added to tap water, and funded studies proving it was good for the teeth. Some say it was added to the water in Jewish Ghettos during the Nazi holocaust. That is for you to research.
The point is, if you do want to take your health back into your own hands, it's imperative to elevate the qualities of your water, and to take your health back from municipal water supplies.
While this may look like a water filter, it's actually a revolution in a box. It's a way to say 'no' to policies that are harmful to us all.
I wrote a lot about water and fluidity in 2013 in my book Flow - An Illuminated Training Manual, and its coming up again because I've relocated, and am researching the new waters in Florida.
If you want to purchase a shower filter like the one I use, I've made one available here for a modest price with free shipping for a limited time.
If you've been bathing in unfiltered tap water, chances are you're suffering some health complication because of it. Most people notice improved skin and hair very quickly, and lung conditions clearing up soon after.
I'd rather bathe in a warm waterfall in Hawaii, but until that becomes an option, I'll use these.
Love and flow.
